IMIS Student Showcase 2026 – Celebrating the Next Generation of Moving Image Talent

Join us for an inspiring afternoon at London’s Odeon Tottenham Court Road, where the UK’s emerging filmmakers take centre stage.

This special showcase features standout student projects from Bournemouth and Roehampton Universities, offering a unique opportunity for students to present their work on the big screen and for industry professionals to discover fresh talent.

Speakers and Panellists

Omar is hands-on in every aspect of production – reporting, filming, directing, editing, and scripting – across TV, radio and digital platforms. For him, technology isn’t just gadgets and code – it’s about people, impact, and the future we’re building together.


Founder of Doc Hearts, Andy Mundy-Castle is known for producing high end content that authentically represents diverse communities with immediacy, sophistication and scale. With over 15 years of experience in the industry. Ex BBC staff Mundy-Castle is the owner and creator of the formats Go Green With The Grimwades, Multi award nominated Reu & Harpers Wonderworld, The Black Lesbian HandbookBritain’s Abandoned Playgrounds and the standout MIPCOM hit show What Did I Do Last Night? 


Jeremy Bubb is Chair of NAHEMI. He is an independent filmmaker, artist, and Senior Lecturer in Film Production and Cinematography, and currently completing his PhD at Middlesex University, London. His current body of work synthesizes traditional film language with multi-screen storytelling techniques and focuses on narratives of the everyday. He has directed TV commercials, short dramas and documentaries, making films in Denmark, France, Poland, Ireland and the UK for a range of clients and TV networks. His work has been screened in film festivals throughout Europe.   


Hermes is a cinecertified ambassador and 1st Camera assistant with more than 15 years of experience working in the camera department. During his journey in the camera department, he has worked in features, HETV dramas, documentaries, commercials, music promos and fashion shows in different parts of the world.  

His experience working with different crews and cultures encourages him to discuss the standards in training in the UK and join CineCertified.org to help create a training framework that is accessible and validated by the film and TV industry. 


Yasmine Almosawi is an award winning editor based in London and Glasgow, specialising in documentary film and television.  

She has worked with some of the world’s biggest broadcasters like Disney +, Netflix, HBO to the BBC and has had her films screened at, Berlinale, LOCO, Raindance and the United Nations. 


Peter Beard is a multi-BAFTA and Emmy winning documentary filmmaker and producer. He is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Story Films, an All3-backed, multi-award-winning, London-based production company known for making creatively bold, entertaining, and thought provoking documentaries and dramas. Recent projects include Otto Baxter: Not a F***ing Horror Story, To Catch A Copper, The Thief His Wife and the Canoe, and Hostage.  

 


Delyth Thomas is a three times Bafta nominated director with credits ranging from dark brooding crime, high-end period drama, to iconic family gems. Screen credits include: Call The Midwife, Silent Witness, Victoria, Then You Run, The Story of Tracy Beaker and The Worst Witch. She also works as a voice director on video games. 

A long-term campaigner for better representation in front of and behind the camera, Delyth was a key contributor to Directors UK gender equality reports  Who’s Calling The Shots  and currently serves on the Directors UK board. She is also co-founder of the workplace culture app Call it! 


Emile Nawagamuwa is a Commissioning Editor in factual at UKTV. Since joining in 2021 Emile has been responsible for building an eclectic slate featuring cutting edge documentaries and hit popular factual series.

13.10 – 13.45: Dream Big: From Brixton to the BAFTA Stage

Keynote Speaker
Andy Mundy Castle, Founder, Doc Hearts

In this keynote conversation, founder of Doc Hearts and BAFTA winner Andy Mundy-Castle joins host Omar Mehtab for a frank, career defining interview drawing on his experience at the top of the industry.

13.45 – 14.15: Bournemouth University Student Showcase

Bournemouth University presents their short film work. Each piece is screened in full, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the breadth of emerging talent across directing, cinematography and production.

14.15 – 14.30: Q&A – Bournemouth University Students

Following the screenings, four Bournemouth students join host Omar Mehtab on stage for a panel discussion and audience Q&A, exploring their creative process, ambitions and experiences in student filmmaking.

14.30 – 14.40: Surrey University Student Showcase

Surrey University presents their short film work. Each piece is screened in full, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the breadth of emerging talent across directing, cinematography and production

14.40 – 15.00: Refreshment Break

15.00: Introduction to Roehampton University Student Showcase

Omar Mehtab re-opens the programme and introduces the second student showcase of the afternoon.

15.00 -15.30: Roehampton University Student Showcase

Roehampton University presents their short film work, showcasing a range of production styles, subjects and cinematic approaches from across the programme.

15.30 – 15.45: Q&A – Roehampton

Four Roehampton students join Omar Mehtab on stage for a panel discussion and audience Q&A, sharing their perspectives on the filmmaking process and their ambitions for careers in the industry.

15.45 – 15.55: Salford University Student Showcase

Salford University presents their short film work. Each piece is screened in full, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the breadth of emerging talent across directing, cinematography and production.

15.55 – 16.05: Framing your Future: NAHEMI Support

Representing nearly sixty teaching institutions across the UK, NAHEMI plays a key role in supporting both students and educators across film and media. This session with Jeremy Bubb, Chair of NAHEMI, explores how it connects academia with industry through events, partnerships, and global networks, while also driving forward initiatives such as sustainable filmmaking. It offers a concise look at how collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and industry alignment are shaping the future pipeline of talent.

16.05 – 16.15: Framing your Future: CineCertified Support

CineCertified is a professional, peer-reviewed training framework that is run by camera crew, for camera crew. They have been creating a new benchmark of training standards in UK film, television and advertising sectors. This presentation by Hermes Contreras, a CineCertified Ambassador, explores their vision for establishing a free, all-accessible and guided route for all crew.

16.15 – 16.55: Behind the Lens: What It Really Takes To Get Ahead
